Summer Camp 2020: COVID-19 Updates
The City hoping to answer some common parent questions below regarding how COVID-19 will affect our 2020 Summer Camp. We will be updating this regularly as more details develop, so please be sure to check back periodically.
Currently, we expect to operate our Adventure Youth Camp Program, at limited enrollment, starting Monday, June 8. The program, offered for youth ages 6 through 11, is expected to last nine weeks and will conclude on Friday, August 7, 2020. Online registration will begin Monday, May 18. There is no in-person registration available at this time
Unfortunately, though, in light of the CDC protocols in place through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hereby canceling our 2020 “Under the Sea” Tot Camp and X-Treme Teen Camp. The decision to cancel these two Summer Camp Programs was not taken lightly, as we know that families within our community rely upon those programs. However, in review of the CDC guidelines, coupled with local, state and federal guidelines, we could not produce the Tot Camp following those restrictions. Additionally, with the restrictions in place which prohibit/restrict field trips, the ability to offer teens with a meaningful and fun Summer Camp is not possible.
The Parks & Recreation Department strives to offer quality camp programs to enrich the lives of participants with enhanced independence, social skills, and a spirit of acceptance and love for one another. Our staff is carefully selected to be outgoing, nurturing, mentoring, and modeling the mission of the department: “To strengthen our community by offering exceptional leisure, cultural, and innovative recreational opportunities”. Today’s active youth become tomorrow’s productive members of society!
