Explorer Post 411 Motto
Courage, Knowledge, Integrity, Supporting Our Community, Working Hard To Be Number One.
In 1985, the Port St. Lucie Police Department founded the Port St. Lucie Police Explorer Post 411. The Post gives young adults, ages 14 to 21, an up close look at the criminal justice field. Our program provides an opportunity for young men and women to experience first-hand how a police department functions and what it takes to start a career in the field of law enforcement.
Post 411 provides positive teenage activities through community involvement. We create the potential for future leaders and help teach leadership skills. We provide the proper information needed for an individual to know if law enforcement is their specialty.
Post 411 practices skills at marching, drill and ceremony so that we may be included in local parades and events. We attend regional and national conferences where we learn more information about law enforcement and compete with other explorer posts in competitions.
The Explorers, after a probationary period of six months may participate in a ride-a-long program where they shadow a certified Law Enforcement Officer to get the "real-feel" of law enforcement. Explorers have the opportunity to attend an offsite police Explorer academy, and help with community relations events. The Explorers help in most areas of law enforcement, and gain knowledge from their bi-weekly training classes in many aspects of law enforcement.
In the Explorer program you will gain insight and practical experience for the law enforcement career with the following instruction.
The History of Law Enforcement, Introduction to Law Enforcement, Note Taking, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Control and Radar Operations, Accident Investigation and Forms, Criminal Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation and Photography, Narcotics Investigation, Organized Crime, Homicide Investigation, Search and Arrest Procedures, Defensive Weapons, Custody and Control, Fingerprinting, Domestic Crisis Intervention and Weapon Safety.
The purpose of Law Enforcement Exploring is to provide young adults with an effective program designed to build positive character traits, develop personal and mental fitness as well as promote active citizenship.
The first goal of Exploring is to give youth an opportunity to pursue career interests with adults who can guide them to experiences they might not otherwise get in traditional educational settings, hands on experiences with people who work in a field or have knowledge of it. The first goal recognizes the difference between readings about sailing and going sailing, discussing Law Enforcement and participating in Law Enforcement.
The second goal of Exploring is to have youth appreciate more fully the meaning of working toward wholeness, seeing the interconnection of all aspects of their world, and understanding how this interconnection affects all their activities, whether they are of a career or other special interest. That's why an Explorer Post organizes a program or activities around the six experience areas of career, social service, leadership, fitness and outdoor. This kind of program helps us to understand more fully the meaning and benefits of maintaining balance in our lives, showing responsibility toward others and our community, and being fit mentally, emotionally, and physically.
