Solid waste drop-off center to close Jan. 2026, saving $2M annually

The City of Port St. Lucie will permanently close the Solid Waste Convenient Drop-Off Center located on Cameo Boulevard, effective Jan. 5, 2026, due to declining usage and the financial impact of keeping the site operational.
Only about one-quarter of our residents currently utilize the facility, and its costs to operate exceed the annual solid waste assessment paid by all residents. Closing the facility will save taxpayers approximately $2 million annually, reflecting our commitment to fiscal responsibility and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used as efficiently as possible.
“In everything we do, the City of Port St. Lucie looks to make data-driven decisions and this is an example of that approach,” said City Manager Jesus Merejo. “Closing this underused facility reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used as efficiently as possible.”
To ensure residents have continued access to bulk item disposal, including appliances, equipment, and small electronics, the City offers three convenient alternatives:
- Monthly curbside bulk collection: Residents may place up to 2 cubic yards of bulk items at the curb on their scheduled collection day.
- Self-haul to the St. Lucie County landfill: Residents can transport materials directly to the landfill for proper disposal (fees may apply).
- Schedule additional bulk pick-up: Additional pickups are available at a rate of $18.50 per cubic yard. To schedule service or request an estimate, call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5.
