What: Informed residents make better decisions to safeguard themselves from flooding by retrofitting homes, purchasing flood insurance and planning for the future. To support these efforts, the City of Port St. Lucie has published two crucial reports: the Local Mitigation Strategy Progress Report and the Program for Public Information Evaluation Report. Both reports, developed by the St. Lucie County Unified Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group, can be accessed on the City’s website at www.CityofPSL.com/Flood by clicking the "Annual Reports" tab.
Why: The City has been an active participant in the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) since 1991, which recognizes public outreach efforts. Thanks to the City’s involvement, its CRS rating improved from Class 8 to Class 5 in 2024. This advancement has translated to a 10% to 25% discount on flood insurance premium renewals for residents, as long as the City maintains this rating.
