The City of Port St. Lucie has received $1.7 million in funding through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program to help income-eligible homeowners complete critical home repairs. The funding, provided by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation, will support the City’s Homeowner Repair and Rehabilitation Assistance Program.

The City will open the program’s pre-application list at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18. The list will close once 100 applications have been received.

The program assists low- to moderate-income homeowners who need help addressing health, safety and energy-efficiency repairs at their primary residence in Port St. Lucie. Eligible homeowners could receive up to $50,000 through 0% interest deferred payment loans, with no monthly payments required. Loans are forgiven over a 15-year period in accordance with program guidelines.

Eligible repairs include correcting code violations, roof replacement, plumbing and electrical improvements, weatherization, septic system work and other necessary upgrades to ensure homes are safe, sanitary and code compliant. Manufactured homes, pools or hot tubs and illegal or non-permitted work are not eligible.

To qualify, applicants must meet income guidelines, have owned and occupied their home within City limits for at least one year, have an assessed home value of $560,154 or less and be current on mortgage and property tax payments.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 18, residents may complete the pre-application online at www.cityofpsl.com/housing. Assistance also is available by contacting the City’s Neighborhood Services Department at 772-344-4084, emailing housing@cityofpsl.com or visiting City Hall at 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd.

The City will post a notice online once the pre-application list has closed. Eligible applicants with complete submissions will be randomly selected for further review. If additional funding becomes available, residents will be notified at least two weeks before any reopening.
