Love Your Block Port St. Lucie

The City of Port St. Lucie’s Love Your Block mini-grants program is back for a second year, inviting residents to bring their ideas to life and make a lasting difference in the Whispering Pines community.

Residents, nonprofits and community groups are invited to apply for Year 2 of the Love Your Block mini-grants program, which supports small-scale neighborhood projects that promote community pride, safety and beautification.

Applications are now open and close March 31. Grants of up to $3,000 are available for projects that benefit the broader community, for example on public art, green space enhancements, beautification and safety initiatives.

Winning projects will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.

The Love Your Block program, powered by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, brings city leaders and residents together to build stronger neighborhoods, one block at a time.

Love Your Block grants fund resident-led neighborhood revitalization projects in communities across the United States. From transforming vacant lots into community gardens to repairing playground equipment and removing trash from a public right-of-way, Love Your Block helps improve public spaces.

A 2021 study by the Urban Institute found that cities that participated in Love Your Block strengthened social cohesion among residents, increased civic participation and built stronger relationships with community members—leading to greater trust in local government.

Established and supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Love Your Block builds on the successful legacy of Cities of Service, which has helped hundreds of mayors and municipalities engage residents as a leading voice in public problem-solving since its launch by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in 2009.

In its first year, Port St. Lucie’s Love Your Block work supported 16 resident-led projects and coordinated two City-led initiatives. The program mobilized 710 volunteers, resulting in:

  • 839 pounds of trash removed
  • 17 acres cleaned
  • 20 new features installed
  • Five trees planted
  • Nine property repairs completed

A total of 1,329 residents participated, demonstrating strong community engagement and support. The program also helped build relationships between residents and City staff through consistent outreach and collaboration.

Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about how to turn their ideas into action. To assist applicants, the City will host two informational workshops:
