City Communications Department earns state, national recognition

The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to providing clear, timely communication that helps residents stay connected to the place they call home.

The City’s Communications Department recently received several state and national awards for its efforts to keep residents informed, engaged and empowered. That included recognition for team achievements, individual accolades and citations for specific projects that reflected excellence in communications.

• The Florida Municipal Communicators Association (FMCA) awarded the City with the Governmental Entity Certificate of Excellence in Communications. The certificate recognizes those local governments whose communications staff have established and are using different tools, resources and technology to effectively and efficiently communicate with their residents.
• Sarah Prohaska, Communications Director, was recognized as FMCA’s Communicator of the Year. The award recognizes a communications professional with more than five years of experience in government communications who demonstrates achievement, excellence and leadership in the industry.
• The FMCA also recognized the City with first place in the category of Video Produced In-House: Promotional/Special Event for a Love Your Block first year wrap-up video.
• The National Association of Government Communicators recognized the City of Port St. Lucie with two third place awards. That included the Educational or Promotional – K-12 Education Program category for the Communications Department’s work with the Port St. Lucie Youth Council, as well as the Educational or Promotional – Multicultural Communications Program category for Port St. Lucie Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity.
• Makenzie Spittler, Assistant Manager of Engagement and Budget, was named Young Professional of the Year by the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
