City of PSL announces 2026 Love Your Block mini-grant winners
Published on April 22, 2026
Six resident-led revitalization projects are set to bring new energy, connection and pride to the Whispering Pines neighborhood as the City of Port St. Lucie announces the 2026 Love Your Block mini‑grant recipients.
From creative improvements in public spaces to efforts that strengthen safety and neighborhood identity, this year’s projects reflect the power of strong community partnerships and shared commitment to making every block a better place to live. Supported by residents, nonprofits, youth leaders and neighborhood groups, each initiative will contribute to a meaningful, lasting impact that goes far beyond beautification alone.
Now in its second year, Port St. Lucie’s Love Your Block mini-grants have demonstrated success in helping to increase Whispering Pines residents’ engagement with their neighbors, promote community pride, safety and beautification.
A total of $20,000 in grant funding was available in 2026. Residents, nonprofits and community groups were invited to apply for grants of up to $3,000 for small-scale projects designed to create lasting impact on their community. This year’s winners included:
- The Treasure Coast High School Key Club will design and paint a wall mural and conduct a park clean‑up project.
- Wind‑permeable silkscreens will be installed on the chain‑link fencing at the Whispering Pines Park pickleball and tennis courts to help reduce noise and headlight glare while adding public art. Volunteers will offer free tennis and pickleball lessons during the silkscreen unveiling.
- Volunteers at Windmill Point Elementary School will refresh and paint the school’s entry sign.
- St. Lucie Skaters will install a custom‑designed silkscreen privacy fence banner along the chain‑link fences at Skate City in Whispering Pines Park. The project will help reduce noise for neighboring homes and enhance the area with public art. Free skate lessons will be offered during the unveiling.
- Volunteers with The Villa of Windmill Point 2 will paint a mural on the community’s entry wall.
- Members of the City’s Youth Council will volunteer to install a bench, build and paint birdhouses and add a birdbath at a neighborhood green space.
- Three strong applications were placed on the waitlist, pending the availability of additional funds later in the cycle.
With support from the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, the Love Your Block program brings city leaders and residents together to build stronger neighborhoods, one block at a time.
Love Your Block grants fund resident-led neighborhood revitalization projects – from transforming vacant lots into community gardens to repairing playground equipment and removing trash from a public right-of-way – in communities across the United States, strengthening social cohesion among residents, increasing civic participation and building stronger relationships with community members, leading to greater trust in local government.
