Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, stands as a powerful reminder of emancipation, resilience and the ongoing pursuit of equality for African Americans in the United States.

On Friday, June 19, the City of Port St. Lucie invites the community to honor this historic milestone by coming together for Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity, an evening dedicated to reflection, education and shared cultural pride.

This free event will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center, 9221 SE Event Center Place.

This year’s program brings together influential local voices and rich cultural experiences designed to deepen understanding and spark meaningful dialogue. Featured speakers include Pamela Carithers of Lincoln Park Main Street, who will explore the legacy of the Florida Highwaymen and the importance of understanding historic landmarks in Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County, along with Patricia Mullins, a Fort Pierce native who will provide historical context leading up to Juneteenth. The highlight of the evening will be a special tribute to Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth.

There also will be a storytelling station, photo booth, a community outreach area, arts and crafts, dance performances, live music and a community outreach area.

As the City of Port St. Lucie continues its commitment to fostering inclusion, understanding and shared cultural appreciation, Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity offers residents and visitors an opportunity to learn, reflect and celebrate together.
