City of Port St. Lucie November Rain Event Advisory 1
Published on November 03, 2026
PORT ST. LUCIE – The City of Port St. Lucie continues to respond to the recent heavy rain event and is actively monitoring conditions throughout the community. The City’s Emergency Operations Center remains partially activated and staff is working closely with St. Lucie County and local partners to assess impacts, address concerns and keep residents informed.
City Hall remains closed today with an update for tomorrow coming out later today.
We urge residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Limiting traffic allows first responders and Public Works crews to safely clear roadways, respond to emergencies and repair storm-related damage, including potholes. Never drive through standing water. Floodwaters can be deeper and move faster than they appear, posing serious risks to drivers and vehicles. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.
Shelters
Because of the excessive flooding and as waters continue to move west to east, St. Lucie County Emergency Management is opening temporary shelters for those who experienced flooding in their homes.
- A general population shelter opened at Northport K-8 School, 250 NW Floresta Drive, Port St Lucie, FL 34983, at 11 a.m.
- A special medical needs shelter is scheduled to open at the Havert L. Fenn Center, at 2000 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce, FL 34982, at 1 p.m.
How to report home flooding
If you are experiencing an emergency or are in a home that is actively flooding, call 911 immediately. If floodwater entered your home but you are not in immediate danger, please report the damage to 1PSL at 772-871-1775 as soon as possible. Reporting residential flooding helps the City document the extent of storm damage and supports efforts to seek potential FEMA disaster assistance. Reporting your damage does not replace filing an insurance claim. Homeowners and renters should still contact their insurance provider directly to begin the claims process.
Stranded Vehicles
The Port St. Lucie Police Department is working with local towing companies to remove and relocate vehicles that are obstructing roadways and affecting emergency response and recovery efforts. Vehicles removed as part of this operation are being transported to a private tow yard or the MIDFLORIDA Event Center, located at 9221 SE Event Center Place, which has been designated as the temporary vehicle storage and recovery location.
Residents who believe their vehicle may have been relocated should contact 1PSL at 772-871-1775 or the Port St. Lucie Police Department non-emergency line at 772-871-5000 for assistance in locating their vehicle. Please have your vehicle information available when calling.

City Facilities
City Hall is closed Tuesday, Nov. 3. City facilities will be open where voting takes place.
All City of Port St. Lucie parks, recreation facilities, recreation programs and fitness centers remain closed because of ongoing impacts from the recent rain event. This includes both City fitness centers and The Saints Golf Course. The only exceptions are Minsky Gym, the MIDFLORIDA Event Center and the Port St. Lucie Community Center, which are open for voting purposes only. All other programs, services, activities and facility operations at these locations remain suspended until further notice.
Solid Waste
Because of continued flooding, the St. Lucie County Landfill will remain closed today. At this time, the landfill will reopen tomorrow. Because of the landfill closure and collection vehicles reaching capacity yesterday, FCC Environmental Services will be unable to provide collection services today.
Collection services will transition to the holiday service schedule, with all scheduled collection days shifting to the next service day, including service on Saturday.
FCC plans to resume operations Wednesday at 6 a.m. by servicing the Tuesday collection routes as scheduled. Residents are asked to put their garbage out before 6 a.m. Recovery of the remaining Monday routes will be incorporated at the end of each workday and throughout the remainder of the week. Weather permitting, FCC anticipates completing all collection routes by Saturday.
Residents should anticipate service delays. If waste is not collected on the scheduled service day, please leave your materials curbside for collection. Updates will continue to be posted on the City's website as additional information becomes available.
Residents whose collection was missed on Monday are encouraged to contact 1PSL at 772-871-1775 to report the missed service. Please continue to check the City website and official social media channels for the latest updates as additional information becomes available.
Public Works
Public Works staff continue to monitor drainage canals and control points and work to address drainage issues. Crews are actively addressing pothole issues, assisting Emergency Medical Services with airboat transportation and providing drone footage to assess structures, embankments and other affected areas. In addition, crews are updating road closure information and deploying barricades, as needed, to help protect public safety.
Emergency Management
Staff coordinated around the clock with the Supervisor of Elections to ensure there is proper support when moving polling locations.
Utility Systems
The Utility Systems Department (USD) has been responding to a high amount of residential sewer alarms since Monday morning. The heavy rains and flooding have overloaded the Wastewater Collection System. Currently, the Sewer Collection System is pumping down and many of the residential grinder systems that were in high-level alarm are returning to normal. There was a high amount of service calls Monday night that inundated the call center, but calls are being answered in a timely manner with minimal hold times.
Currently, the Wastewater Treatment Plants are handling the high amount of flows and the lift stations that were in high alarm are pumping down. The USD is continuing to provide coverage for service requests and will have staff available into the morning hours.
The Water Treatment Plants have been maintaining normal operations, and the distribution system is in normal operations. The USD essential employees are responding to service requests and assisting other City Departments.
