PSL City Council lowers property tax rate for 11th straight year

The Port St. Lucie City Council continued its history of lowering property tax rates for residents when it formally adopted the Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget on Sept. 28.
Council unanimously lowered the City’s property tax (millage) rate for the 11th consecutive year, reducing it from 4.9750 to 4.8750 for the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. The millage rate is the rate of tax per $1,000 of taxable property value.
The reduction reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to smart financial planning that supports a rapidly growing community while keeping costs down for property owners.
Since 2016, the City has reduced its millage rate by 25%, saving the average homeowner nearly $2,000 over the past decade. Today, the City of Port St. Lucie has the third lowest municipal millage rate out of Florida’s 20 largest cities.
That has come at a time when the City has seen substantial population growth, with more than 60,000 new residents moving to Port St. Lucie since 2020. That population increase has required investments in infrastructure projects for roads, drainage, utilities and public safety.
“Our goal is to provide the services our residents value most while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Mayor Shannon M. Martin. “By taking a measured approach to lowering property tax rates, we have been able to continue meeting the needs of our growing community while remaining fiscally responsible.”
The FY 2026-27 budget includes a total of $971.6 million for the City’s operating and capital funds.
