Port St. Lucie turns 65: Join the celebration
Published on April 02, 2026
Port St. Lucie is turning 65 and the entire community is invited to the party.
On Saturday, April 25, from 5-8 p.m., Port St. Lucie will come alive with music, stories, food and fun. Residents can gather to celebrate Port St. Lucie’s incredible journey, from its early beginnings to becoming the sixth-largest city in Florida and an All-America City.
This free celebration invites families, friends and neighbors to come together and honor the people, places and progress that make Port St. Lucie a special place.
The celebration will be held at The Port District, 2454 SE Westmoreland Blvd. Guests can enjoy:
- The Naturally PSL Environmental Stewardship Awards, recognizing local champions who help keep our City beautiful and resilient
- A lively evening of music by The Motowners.
- Delicious bites from a variety of food trucks
- Children’s activities
- Opportunities to meet and chat with City staff
- A storytelling station where residents can share their own PSL moments and milestones
Port St. Lucie’s beginnings look a little different from most South Florida cities. Port St. Lucie was incorporated in 1961 by a development group selling quarter‑acre lots to retirees, without the usual city infrastructure like sidewalks, streetlights or water and sewer systems.
Over the past six decades, our community transformed those unlikely beginnings into a powerful success story. In the 1970 U.S. Census, our population was less than 1,000 people. Today, Port St. Lucie is the sixth largest city in Florida with more than 260,000 residents and it has been recognized as:
- The safest large city in Florida for more than a decade
- A 2025 All-America City by the National Civic League
- One of only two cities in America to be considered fully racially integrated
- One of the top real estate markets in the state and the nation
“Sixty-five years ago, Port St. Lucie began as a small bedroom community,” said Mayor Shannon M. Martin. “As we mark 65 years, we’re celebrating not just how far we’ve come, but the bright future we’re continuing to build together. This event is a chance for everyone to come out, connect and be part of what makes Port St. Lucie such an extraordinary community.”
