ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Due to extremely dry conditions, St. Lucie County Public Safety officials — in collaboration with the St. Lucie County Fire District — have issued a local state of emergency and county-wide burn ban, effective immediately.

This ban applies to all non-permitted outdoor burning, to protect lives and property. Agricultural burning may be allowed only on a case-by-case basis as authorized by the Florida Forest Service.

During the burn ban, the following are prohibited:

  • Outdoor burning of any combustible material
  • Bonfires
  • Campfires
  • Warming fires
  • Outdoor fireplaces
  • Fireworks
  • Cooking fires unless exclusively on a contained gas or charcoal grill

Motorists are also urged to exercise extra caution, avoid parking over dry grass, and minimize activities that could create sparks.

Conditions will continue to be monitored, and the ban will remain in effect until it is rescinded.
