The Floresta Drive Improvement Project – funded by the voter-approved Half-Cent Sales Tax – reached two important milestones as it progresses toward its final phase.
The project provides an enhanced two-lane roadway featuring landscaping, lighting, sidewalks and bicycle lanes. The City is finalizing completion of the second of three phases and will begin construction on the final phase in March. Once complete, the improvements will extend from Southbend Boulevard to Prima Vista Boulevard – a total of more than four miles.
On Feb. 19, representatives from the City, St. Lucie Council and community partners gathered at U.S. Submarine Veterans Park at the corner of Floresta Drive and Crosstown Parkway to celebrate the work completed to date and the start of the final phase.
“With an amazing team, we were able to balance safety and traffic improvements, while also creating a beautifully landscaped corridor,” City of Port St. Lucie Vice Mayor Jolien Caraballo said at the event. “When it is complete, this will be the project we use as an example of future corridors as we continue to improve areas of the City.”
In November 2018, St. Lucie County voters approved the Half-Cent Sales Tax voter referendum, which provided funding for the Floresta Drive improvements.
