$56,250 grant provides 76 new trees for City of PSL neighborhood

A total of 76 new trees were planted in a City of Port St. Lucie neighborhood thanks to a $56,250 grant from the U.S. Forest Service through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The primary purpose of the Urban and Community Forestry-Inflation Reduction Act grant program is to promote better urban forest management. It provides resources necessary for the retention and expansion of community tree canopy throughout Florida – particularly in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods.
The City received the grant in 2024, which provided funding for trees to be planted in the St. Lucie North neighborhood along Selvitz Road from NW Peachtree Boulevard to NW Manville Drive. The location was identified as a qualifying neighborhood that could benefit from the addition of trees.
The new trees, which include live oak, sycamore, crape myrtle lavender and royal poinciana, not only help beautify the area, they improve air quality and provide needed shade along sidewalks, a park and school, as well as residential areas.
