What: The City of Port St. Lucie is holding a public meeting for residents to hear updates on the Hogpen Slough stormwater treatment area project, learn about the next steps and meet the project team.

When: Wednesday, April 23 from 5-7 p.m.

Where: City Hall Council Chambers, 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd., Building A.

Why: Design for the Hogpen Slough stormwater treatment area (STA) project is underway. The design and permitting phases are anticipated to be completed by Fall 2025 with construction expected to begin in early 2026.

Stormwater treatment areas are constructed wetlands designed to filter nutrients by promoting plant growth and the formation of peat soil. Besides helping with flood protection, their primary function is to remove phosphorus from urban and agricultural runoff before it flows into the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.

Located north of Walton Road and west of Lennard Road, the Hogpen Slough STA will treat runoff from areas like Savanna Preserve State Park, Savannah Club and Spanish Lakes Golf Village.
