City of PSL connects community and nature with Preserve trails opening
Published on February 19, 2026
A new destination for nature lovers is taking shape in The Port District.
A ribbon cutting will be held March 4 for The Preserve at the Port District, a 13-acre conservation area and scenic preserve that will offer residents and visitors a peaceful retreat to relax, walk trails and enjoy the outdoors – right in the heart of the city.
Date: Wednesday, March 4
Time: 4 p.m.
Address: Pioneer Park, 2454 SE Westmoreland Blvd.
Located at the southernmost point of The Port District, the Preserve features peaceful walking trails, scenic boardwalk connections and nature overlooks along a wetland, creating an immersive experience for residents and visitors alike.
It also connects to the existing boardwalk along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, which spans more than three-quarters of a mile – perfect for a tranquil stroll through nature.
“Residents have shared how much they value opportunities to connect with nature and we took that to heart,” said Mayor Shannon M. Martin. “The Preserve Trail is a direct response to that feedback and we wanted to create a place where people can slow down, enjoy the outdoors and feel more connected to the natural beauty that makes Port St. Lucie special.”
This project is part of the City’s Naturally PSL: Green Spaces and Places Initiative, which supports increasing residents’ access to parks, trails and natural areas, connecting them to the environment and enhancing quality of life.
Construction on the Preserve began in August 2025 and was funded through the Parks Impact Fee Capital Improvement Project and a grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District.
The public is invited to help celebrate this exciting addition to our community. Following the ribbon-cutting, light refreshments and snacks will be offered, and the trail will be ready for participants to enjoy!
