The City of Port St. Lucie recently completed work on a project that will benefit the City’s urban forest.

The project was made possible through a $50,000 grant from the Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The 2025 Urban and Community Forestry Capacity Grant provided funding to update the tree inventory along roadways recently acquired by the City.

Information was gathered about the species, size, health, risk factors and value of each tree and shrub in the selected areas. That data assists the City in planning, improving streetscapes and ensuring the urban forest continues to benefit residents today and in the future.

Expanding the tree canopy is a key priority in the City's strategic plan and its Naturally PSL initiative.
