Anchor installation at The Port District

The City of Port St. Lucie Community Redevelopment Agency is seeking six artists or artist teams with experience creating site-specific artworks to conceptualize and apply a unique design to six prefabricated anchor sculptures at The Port District.

Artists from St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin or Okeechobee counties with demonstrated experience in public art are invited to submit proposed designs. Once selected, artists will be responsible for conceptualizing and installing a design for one anchor. The anchors are 72 inches tall by 56 inches wide by 6 inches in depth, and will be mounted to a metal baseplate on a concrete platform.

Each artist or artist team will be paid $2,500 upon completion and approval of their painted anchor.

A submission packet, which includes a cover letter, qualifications, up to 10 examples of past work must be submitted as a PDF.

The deadline for submission is Friday, May 2. A selection committee will choose the artists.

The project transforms metal utility boxes into vibrant works of art that reflect Florida’s natural beauty. As new utility boxes are installed, they will be decorated with wraps of the artwork. New wraps are also installed to replace fading or damaged installations to keep the displays fresh.

Artists are encouraged to submit artwork that celebrates nature with depictions of local flora and fauna. Photographs will be considered.

Submissions will be reviewed by the City’s Public Art Advisory Board, which will evaluate pieces based on artistic quality, relevance to the theme and printability.

  • Submission period closes Wednesday, April 30.
