July 4th holiday affects solid waste schedule
Published on June 23, 2025
As Independence Day approaches, the City of Port St. Lucie is reminding its residents of upcoming changes to the trash collection schedule. The following adjustments will apply to scheduled garbage, recycling, yard and bulk waste collection during the holiday week:
- Monday, June 30 through Thursday, July 3: Regular collection schedule.
- Friday, July 4: There will be no garbage collection because the landfill is closed.
- Friday's customers will be serviced on Saturday, July 5.
- Monday, July 8: Regular schedule resumes.
- Port St. Lucie’s Convenient Drop-off Center also will be closed on Friday, July 4, but will reopen on Saturday, July 5.
There are only three holidays that affect Port St. Lucie’s solid waste service, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
After the Independence Day celebrations, it's important to soak fireworks in water before securely bagging them and putting them in the black garbage cart to prevent fires.
