Village Green Drive

About

village green fact sheet

The Village Green Drive Corridor Revitalization Project is intended to kick-start eastern Port St. Lucie’s long-awaited renaissance and vision for a revitalized gathering place. Improvements to Village Green Drive and surrounding areas will improve connectivity, accessibility and aesthetics between Crosstown Parkway and the key economic, community, and healthcare hubs along this corridor.

The first step in determining the best opportunities for improving the corridor is to develop a Village Green Drive Master Plan. Current conditions will be examined and then various conceptual design solutions for the corridor will be presented. Recommendations will include multimodal improvements, public art and landscape treatments.

The project began in the Fall of 2020 and is expected to be completed in early Summer 2021.

Public Participation

Public participation is an essential part of the planning process. The Timeline section below lists key dates when the public will have the opportunity to meet with project managers, provide input and learn about the process and proposed plan. We invite residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to join us in creating a more people-friendly corridor by providing input and inspiration.

What is a Complete Street?

Complete Streets are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it safe, convenient and comfortable to cross the street, walk to shops and bicycle to work. They allow buses to run on time and make it safer for people to walk to and from bus stops.

Complete Streets:

  • Improve livability
  • Improve safety and accessibility
  • Encourage healthier lifestyles through walking and biking
  • Create cleaner air and water through sustainable design
  • Spur economic growth

Benefits

Revitalization of the Village Green Drive Corridor will enhance a critical link in the regional transportation network and provide for improved emergency response times. Incorporating a Complete Streets approach can calm traffic, enhance pedestrian and biking opportunities, improve safety, promote economic development, and connect with trails, the East Coast Greenway, and the Crosstown Parkway Extension.
