What do I do if an item is not picked up?

Moving to a new home?

If you are relocating, please do not take the garbage or recycling carts with you. These carts are assigned to the property, not the individual resident. Leave them securely at the original address for the next occupant to use. This helps ensure uninterrupted service for everyone.

Are you a new homeowner and need garbage and recycling carts?

New homeowners can call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5 to request carts.

Can I request an additional cart and what is the cost?

Yes, residents who need extra capacity can request additional carts for an annual fee:

  • Extra garbage cart: $84 per year
  • Extra recycling cart: $70 per year
  • This fee covers the cost of the cart, delivery, and the added collection service.
  • To request, call 772-871-1775 (press 5).

Can I swap out my cart for a different size?

Yes, you can exchange your cart for a different size for a one-time fee of $75. To request a different size, call 772-871-1775 and press 5.

What should I do if my cart is lost, stolen, or broken?

If your cart is missing, damaged, or stolen, the City will replace it at no cost to you. To request a replacement, call 772-871-1775 and press 5, or submit a request online through the 1PSL website or mobile app.

Why can’t I use a store-bought garbage can?

Residents must use city-issued carts because:

  • Compatibility: Automated trucks are designed for these carts only.
  • Functionality: Other carts may not be picked up properly and could be damaged.
  • Responsibility: City-issued carts ensure the hauler replaces damaged carts.
  • Equity: Extra carts mean extra service, ensuring fairness for all. A second city-issued cart confirms that the contractor is compensated for the extra work.

What if I live in a community with an HOA?

If your neighborhood has a Homeowners Association (HOA) that regulates the size or placement of garbage carts, please contact your HOA directly to confirm the requirements for your community.
