Rental Assistance for Seniors
Are you a senior struggling to pay rent? Help is available.
The City of Port St. Lucie is reopening applications for its Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17. This federally funded program helps eligible residents age 62 and older remain housed and stable.
During the week of Nov. 10-16, a printable application will be available on this webpage. During this time, interested applicants can ask questions, gather required documents and prepare to apply.
Program Highlights
- What it offers: At least 12 months of rental assistance.
- Who it's for: Seniors who live or work within City limits and meet federal income guidelines.
- Funding source: U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Federal HOME Program.
- How it works: Assistance is based on a sliding scale that considers household income and rental costs.
What the voucher can cover
Approved applicants may use their voucher for:
- Monthly rent.
- A security deposit.
- A combination of security and utility deposits (if relocation is needed).
Participants are required to contribute 30% of their adjusted monthly income toward rent.
Application Timeline
- Nov. 10–16: A printable application packet will be available on this webpage and in person at City Hall for applicants to review eligibility requirements, ask questions and gather required documents.
- Nov. 17 at 9 a.m.: The City will begin accepting applications. Only 25 applications will be processed on a first-ready basis because of limited funding.
- Submit your application in person at City Hall, 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd., Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (appointments recommended)
- If you’re unable to apply in person, contact the Neighborhood Services Department for assistance.

These regulations are intended to assist the applicant in providing a responsive application for consideration. The program also can be a standalone deposit assistance program, providing security and utility deposits to eligible relocating families.
