Well Design and Construction Project

Glass of water

The City of Port St. Lucie has contracted with Florida Design Drilling, LLC, for the design and construction of nine raw water supply wells and approximately 3.5 miles of raw water main piping to increase the City’s potable water supply system capacity, operational flexibility and resiliency. Three wells will be located in the northwest and six in the southwest of the City.

Employees from the City and their subcontractor and subconsultants will be in the project area gathering information for design, permitting and construction of the proposed improvements.

This work will include, but is not limited to the following tasks:

• Surveying and geotechnical engineering services
• Hydrogeological and engineering design services
• Raw water main construction
• Raw water supply well drilling and construction

What should I expect during construction?

You may notice:

  • Temporary detours, dust, and construction activity on nearby roads and sidewalks.
  • Some noise and vibration from heavy equipment.
  • Short-term closures of sidewalks or roadways as work progresses.
  • We’ll coordinate with nearby homeowners in advance. Orange cones and signage will guide drivers and pedestrians safely around work zones.

What will the well site look like during construction?

  • A drill rig approximately 45 feet tall will be used for the below-grade portion of the well.
  • Additional equipment may include water and slurry tanks, cement and slaker trucks, cranes, and other support vehicles.

How long will work be happening near my home?

  • Work near individual properties will be limited and is not expected to last more than 12 consecutive months.
  • Weather and unforeseen factors may affect the schedule.

How long will the entire project last?

  • Construction will occur in phases (well drilling, pipe installation, facility construction).
  • You’ll receive advance notice before each phase begins.
  •  The full project is expected to continue through 2029.

Will my mailbox or landscaping be affected?

  • No impact is anticipated to your mailbox, landscaping, or other private property.

What if I notice damage to my property?

  • Contact the project team immediately. You’ll receive contact details in the Construction Commencement Notification before work begins.
  •  Include the date, time, location, and photos if possible.
